Nozzle Ring Weld Repair

April 25, 2018

Formerly, turbo nozzle rings (nozzle ring) with excessive cracks and excessive foreign object damage (FOD) were commonly scrapped or repaired with an expensive ADH braze process and/or TIG welded. The nozzle ring’s construction from nickel based alloys made conventional repair methods difficult and financially unfeasible from a cost of quality benefit. An internally developed repair using “Free Form Additive” was selected as the primary process to repair damaged nozzle rings, thus replacing conventional braze and welding repairs. The unique qualities of this process, provided limited and focused heat input, eliminating a need for pre and post well heat treat.
